ALEXANDER & AGNES YOUNG (nee MILLER/AR)
YOUNG = "PRUDENCE EXCELS STRENGTH"
SCOTLAND to AUSTRALIA
ALEXANDER YOUNG
Alexander, who I believe is the child of David & Elen (nee Wyllie), was born at Alloa, Clackmannanshire, Scotland according to census records & shipping record, the only record of possible parents I have found for Alexander is;
David Young married Elen Wyllie on the 8th. December 1820. According to the “Marriage Register 1820, Parish of Monkton & Prestwick, County of Ayrshire, Scotland” David & Elen both in this Parish gave in their names to be proclaimed in order to marriage the 18th. November & after being 3 times proclaimed, they were married the 8th. December by Dr. Peebles.
From this record it at least suggests that David & Elen/Helen hailed from Ayrshire.
I`m not convinced of this link between David & Elen Young with Alexander at this stage until more records/info. are found to support the connection – there are only two things I am running with for this connection at this time & that is that they are the names Alexander put on the shipping records for his parents & that he & his wife named their 1st. child, a son “David”, plus the time frame is about-correct?
___________________________________________________________________________
Alexander marries Agnes Ritchie Miller/ar, on the 4th. Sabbath (22nd.) of September 1839 at New Monkland, Lanarkshire, Scotland, both from East Parish. Agnes, born on the 28th. August 1818, New Monkland, Lanarkshire, Scotland & Baptised on the 6th. September 1818, Old Monkland, Lanarkshire, Scotland. Agnes is the daughter of John & Agnes Miller/ar (nee Ritchie).

According to the 1841 Scottish census the family of Alexander & Agnes are living at Graham St. Airdrie & have a child - David, 1 yr. old.
In the 1851 Census, Parish of New Monkland, County of Lanarkshire, Scotland, the family is residing at 108 Graham Street, Airdrie, Alexander is the head of household, married, 33 yrs. of age, Coalminer, born Alloa, Clackmannanshire, Agnes, wife, married, 32 yrs. of age, born New Monkland, Lanarkshire - Samuel, son, 7 yrs. of age, at home, born Airdrie, Lanarkshire - Alexander, son, 5 yrs. of age, at home, born Airdrie, Lanarkshire - Susan, Daughter, 3 yrs. of age, at home, born Airdrie, Lanarkshire.
There is no mention of David the eldest child?
There are (2) two lodgers listed on the record:
John Robertson, unmarried, 22 yrs. of age, Collier, born Airdrie, Lanarkshire
John Glen, unmarried, 17 yrs. of age, Collier, born Airdrie, Lanarkshire.
“In regards to Alexander’s movements from the east of Scotland (Clackmannanshire) - his birth place, according to the 1851 census & then to central Scotland (Lanarkshire) - his & Agnes’s marriage & the subsequent birth of their children, seems likely to be employment related. In particular, both of the lowland counties are farming areas plus they have significant coalfields”.
The next record of Alexander, Agnes & family is when they depart from Liverpool, England onboard the sailing ship “CASTILIAN/CASTILLIAN”
